Who We Are

Built on Experience.
Committed to Outcomes.

Two Finance leaders. Four decades of global banking expertise. One shared mission: to make Finance organisations more efficient, more controlled, and more effective.

Our Story

The idea that started it all.

French & Wattle was born from a conviction shared by two inspiring senior leaders: that Finance organisations could be built and run far better — and that doing so required people who had led complex Finance functions from the inside, not just advised from the outside.

Serena Tolley and Etienne Marot each spent the better part of their careers inside one of the world's largest global banking institutions — leading large teams, delivering complex change programmes, and redesigning Finance functions at scale. Together, their experience spans Finance operations, financial reporting, risk, regulation, systems architecture, and transformational change across major financial centres in Australia, France, India, Hong Kong, and London.

When they left, they brought with them something that no advisory model can easily replicate: the knowledge of what it actually takes to build a high-performing Finance function — from the people and culture to the technology and governance frameworks that hold it together.

Our Mission

"Make Finance organisations more efficient, more controlled, and more effective — by aligning people, processes and systems to deliver measurable performance."

Our offer is insight and advice grounded in tangible experience inside complex organisations. We don't just write strategies — we support full implementation, because we know that's where the real value is created.

The Team

Meet Our Founders

Two leaders with complementary expertise and a shared commitment to making Finance functions genuinely better.

Serena Tolley, Co-Founder and Director of French & Wattle

Serena Tolley

Co-Founder & Director

Serena is a qualified Chartered Accountant from Australia with over 15 years of banking experience in one of the world's largest banks. She spent more than eight years specialising in financial reporting before moving into broader roles supporting Finance operations as COO.

In this capacity, she created an internal consultancy pool of Finance SMEs for the global Finance organisation — demonstrating her core ability to cultivate skills and people to deliver key outcomes. Prior to working in financial services, she was an auditor and has a solid foundation in controls. Throughout her career, she has challenged the status quo and consistently sought to streamline and automate wherever possible.

Etienne Marot, Co-Founder and Director of French & Wattle

Etienne Marot

Co-Founder & Director

Etienne spent 25 years in the banking sector across France, India, Hong Kong, and London in major French and UK banks. His experience spans most areas of Finance, and he has a proven track record in managing Finance Operations teams, delivering systems change, budget delivery and cost saves, management information, planning and forecasting, asset and liability management, regulatory reporting, financial reporting, risk management, and controls.

His experience in banking across different activities and cultures has developed his expertise and reinforced a strong interest in people — enabling him to structure organisations and systems to get the most out of people- and system-dependent environments. He brings a rare combination of technical depth and human insight.
